Record detail
One detail page per table: the primary field as title, then what it is, where it stands, amounts and history.
When to use
Use it on the record detail page of every table, opened from every page and every link pill that shows the table.
When not to use
A detail for a reference table, such as a synced catalogue, is read only and has nothing to edit. Creation happens in a form or an embedded list, covered in creating records.
How it works
Use the primary field as the title
The title is the record’s primary field.
Pass: the title of the detail matches the name the record has in every list.
Order groups the same way on every detail
Groups run in one order: what it is, where it stands and what comes next, amounts, history. History holds the child records as an embedded list, alone in its group. Group titles are What, Next, Amounts and History.
Pass: on every detail, the group titles read top to bottom in this order.
Fill a row before opening a new group
Fields sit side by side, up to six per row and three columns per group, before a new group starts.
Pass: no group holds a field that would fit in the last row of the group above.
Show the next action without a click
The due date and the check sit in the detail’s first screen, so the person sees the next action when the record opens.
Pass: at 1180 x 757, the next action is visible on opening the record, with 0 clicks and 0 scrolls.
Put a computed field beside the input it explains
A computed value sits next to the field it depends on, read only. The person types the input and validates the result in the same place.
Pass: every formula or lookup in the detail sits beside the input it comes from.
Put the check beside the status
Where the person changes the status, the record’s check sits next to it.
Pass: the status and its check are in the same row.
Edit links in the detail
A link is changed where its current value is visible, so the old value never disappears unseen.
Pass: no page outside the detail lets the person change a link field.
Research
The interface skill’s rules and page kit, built on the reviewer’s feedback, are the only source here. Filling a row before opening a new group follows the reviewer’s request, on an ordering system, that a card’s extra line go “to the RIGHT of the title section”.
